Sharon Lorraine Gilchrist (nee Schweitzer) of West Lorne passed away on April 8, 2026 in her 83rd year.
She was predeceased by her husband Neil, parents Myrl & George Schweitzer and sister Marie and brother-in-law Russ McDougall. She was the loving mother and will be missed by daughter, Heather Wannamaker of Trenton, and son Duncan (Ronda) Gilchrist of Indiana.
She was a very special Nana to Kyle and Natalie Wannamaker, and Grandma GG to Samantha, Stephanie and Patrick Gilchrist. Sharon was involved in many different volunteer groups in the community where she enjoyed spending time helping others and cultivating friendships.
Sharon worked more than 27 years as a registered nurse at Four Counties Health Care in Newbury, where she took great pride in the compassionate and personal care of her patients, especially the elderly.
As a member of the West Lorne Presbyterian Church and the Crinan Presbyterian Church, she participated in the choir, teaching Sunday school, and was a member of various boards and committees. Sharon was also a longtime member of the Crinan Women’s Institute.
In 2022 she was elated to become a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee honours recipient for her contributions to community commitment.
Sharon was an avid cook and baker, often sharing with friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed success in the Rodney Fair baking entries and loved judging the baby competition.
She enjoyed crafting and gardening, keeping her yard full of flowers every year. Sharon loved music and liked playing the piano and in later life, learned how to play the guitar.
While all these things brought her pleasure, her greatest love was for her family. She was a loving and very proud grandmother, never missing any opportunity to show off pictures of her grandchildren and spread the word on what they were accomplishing in their lives.
A visitation will be held at Arn Funeral Home in Rodney on Friday April 24th from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. with luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to the Glencoe Humane Society, Four Counties Health Care, or the Crinan Women’s Institute.
