Olive Elizabeth Johnston (Stacey)
Betty Johnston was born January 9, 1928 and passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024 in
her 97th year. Loving wife of the late Bob Johnston, (1995) and mother of John R. (Brenda)
Johnston, Anne (George) Nogradi and Stacey Johnston.
Grandmother of Julie (Shawn) Loveland, Greg Nogradi, Carl (Tori) Nogradi, Eamon (Janelle)
Johnston, Devon Johnston and Owen Johnston.
Great Grandmother to Ashton, Louise, Joanna, Duncan and Everett.
She is pre-deceased by her brother Stuart J. Stacey (2023) and her parents John S. Stacey and
and Velma I. (Hodder)
Betty grew up in Dutton Ontario before heading to Detroit Michigan to work and study. She was
a uniquely creative individual who hand crafted beautiful porcelain dolls, was well known for her
ability to repair antique dolls and was an avid sewer. Her artistic talents included charcoal
sketching, water colour and oil paintings, which she continued well into her 90’s.
Betty moved back to Dutton after meeting her husband Bob where they started their family. A
few years later the family moved to Rodney where Betty stayed on the farm for 50 years,
travelling often and hosting friends and family from the States and Canada and running art
classes in her basement.
She enjoyed travelling, always learning a new art skill and being a member of the Clachan
Women’s Institute, Kintyre Church, the West Lorne Women’s Synchro Skating along with
numerous doll and art clubs.
A private service will be held for the family and arrangement entrusted to Arn Rodney Chapel.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. If you wish donations can be made to a
charity of your own choice.
