Maria Fernanda (Gomes) Oliveira

Surrounded by her loving family, Maria Fernanda Gomes Oliveira passed away peacefully at Four Counties Health Services on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late João “John” Oliveira. Cherished mother of the late Carlos (Adelia), John (Cathy), and Tony (Lisa) Oliveira. Loving Avó to Jenny (Adam), Lindsay (Mike), Bradley (Taylor), Justin (Rachel), Julie, Amy (Chris), Nicole (Jon), and Caitlin (Dayton), and adored Bisavó to twelve great-grandchildren.

Maria was born in Portugal on October 19, 1930. She and John were married February 2, 1956 and together raised three sons. In 1969, they immigrated to West Lorne, Ontario, bringing with them their Portuguese heritage and strong family traditions. Maria was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in her cooking, sewing & gardens, always surrounding her family with love and warmth. Maria’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She cherished every visit, phone call, and holiday gathering, always lighting up at the sight or sound of those she loved most.

Words cannot describe the loss her family feels with her passing, but her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. A special thank you to all the staff at Babcock Nursing Home for their wonderful support and care over Maria’s last years. Your kindness made her stay both comfortable and joyful. The family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Four Counties Health Services for their exceptional compassion and care during her final days.

Visitation will take place at Arn Funeral Home in Dutton on Thursday, November 13th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Vigil Prayers to be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in West Lorne on Friday, November 14th, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Babcock Nursing Home would be greatly appreciated by the family. A donation box will be available at the visitation for those wishing to contribute in Maria’s memory.
