Margaret Carroll Obituary

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Margaret Anne Carroll who died peacefully November 3rd surrounded by her daughters Nancy Carroll and Sheelagh (Joe) Carroll-de Sousa.

Margie was born in Cowal, Dunwich Township May 24, 1933 to Archie and Vanelda (Smith) McTavish sandwiched a year apart from her late brothers, Duncan and Donald McTavish.

She married her high school sweetheart, Donald L. Carroll on July 23, 1957 enjoying 53 years of married life. Margie had three children before she returned to teaching full-time. Mrs. Carroll retired, from Southwold Public School after 26 years, giving her quality time with their son Bob who died at home. Joy followed a few years later when she became Grandma to Clara, Olivia and Adam de Sousa who loved her dearly.

Auntie Marg loved her many nieces and nephews, and in recent years became a great aunt to several grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters-in-law Eileen (Duncan), Kathy (Donald), and Shirley (Lynn) and brother-in-law Lynn Lashbrook.

Forever sociable and outgoing Margie belonged to numerous organizations including 4-H clubs and Junior Farmers in her youth, Women’s Institute, U.C.W., Elgin Land Stewardship, and Retired Teachers of Ontario. She treasured her family, her dear cousins, neighbours and friends both new and old, such as the Lunch Bunch, and the folks in the Bobier Villa program.

Young at heart, forgiving and loving, Margie felt blessed by her long life and good health. On her behalf, we express our gratitude to the Ontario Health at Home organization and Mike Hartman of Closing the Gap program for his kind and caring friendship with Margie.

Visitation will be held at Arn Funeral Home Dutton on Sunday November 9, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. where the Funeral Service to honour Margie's life will be held on Monday November 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Interment  at Cowal McBride Cemetery.  Relatives, friends and neighbours are invited back to Dunwich Church for refreshments and fellowship, following the interment.

Donations in Margie Memory donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, The Barrie Family Hospice of Elgin, or the West Elgin Daffodil Auxiliary, appreciated by the family.
