It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Manual Dimas Vieira on Wednesday, November. 13, 2024 at the age of 81.
Predeceased by his loving parents Estolano and Urbana Vieira and sisters Hernogenia Brazil (Jose) & Izilda Silva (Manuel), survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Jorge Vieira, Evelina Azevedo (Luis), Islalina Dias (Jose), Druvalina Brazil (Gilbert) and Isalino Silva (Natalia). He will be greatly missed by his many cousins and extended family.
Born in Topo, Sao Jorge Acores Portugal, Manuel was a strong-willed child, an excellent student and always eager to help on the family homestead. After completing school, he used his families' teachings to work as a farm hand in the agricultural sector before he was called to active duty in 1958, where he proudly served his country.
After honourably retiring from the Portuguese Military, his thirst for adventure never ceased, inspired by, and with the loving support of his extended family, he immigrated to Canada in 1974 with nothing more than a little suitcase, a heart full of hope, fierce work ethic and relentless determination.
Arriving in West Lorne, Ontario he used his agricultural knowledge from the islands of the Azores to become an invaluable orchard and tobacco labourer in our small community. Manuel was determined to make the best of his new life overseas, working hard and saving to purchase his very own home in 1989.
Having never met a stranger, he made fast friends in his newfound home, a friendly wave to the patrons of the West Lorne legion, an avid gardener long after his retirement, he spoiled his neighbours and friends with the bountiful fruits of his labour, that he proudly delivered to their doorsteps. Manuel will be fondly remembered for his love of animals, his compassionate nature to help in need and for being a loving and constant role model to many, including a cherished friend to Sarah Russell and her children, Grace and Ella Russell who will deeply miss their beloved “Manny.”
We would like to thank the incredible palliative care team at the Parkwood Institute for their unwavering compassion and support to both Manuel and his heartbroken loved ones in his final days.
Visitors will be received at Arn Funeral Home, 202 Main Street West Lorne Ontario on Sunday, November. 17th from 2-4pm, followed by Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 128 Main Street, West Lorne on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at 10am, internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery to follow.
