Josef Schaffer

On Wed. January 29th, 2020 at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, Josef Schaffer passed away at the age of 91. Beloved husband to Helen (Kuhn, predeceased 2017) for 66 years. Loving father to Peter of Bradford and Tony (Judy) of Dutton. Cherished Grandpa to Paul (Karen) Schaffer, Teresa (Simon) Hawkins, Stephen & Tony Schaffer and Opa to Scott (Renae Bergeron) Schaffer. Great Grandfather to Isabella & Kiana Schaffer, Ryan & Nathan Hawkins. Predeceased by parents Jakob & Eva Schaffer and brother Tony. Brother to Margarete Ivany in Austria, brother-in-law to Brigitte Kuhn in Austria and Erna Schaffer in Florida.

Joe & Helen moved to Canada in 1953, worked hard & bought their farm in Dutton in 1959. Friends & family will remember him for his great sense of humour & love of animals. Besides farming he also enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, music, chopping  firewood & making wine. In the last 11 yrs he beat prostate cancer, dealt with heart issues and dementia. Special thanks go to ALL the staff at Bobier Villa who became his other family members. At Joe’s request there will be no visitation.  A Celebration of Life for Josef will be held at Bobier Villa, Dutton on Saturday March 14, 2020 at 2:00 pm.Donations may be made to Bobier Villa LTC in Dutton or STEGH Foundation.
