Peacefully, at his home, in Glencoe, surrounded with his family, Joao Baganha passed away in the early hours of June 20, 2024. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Palmira Baganha (Machado). Dear father of George Baganha (Preciosa) of Strathroy, Marcy (Brad Welch) of Glencoe. Special grandfather of Nicole Baganha, Matthew Baganha and Ethan Peixoto. Predeceased by his parents Manuel and Valentina Baganha, his two sisters (Azores) and brother (Sarnia). Survived by many loving nephews, nieces, and extended family.
Joao was born June 21, 1936, in the Island of Sao Jorge, Acores, Portugal and immigrated to build his life in Canada in 1964. Joao was a man of many talents characterized by his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic. His family was his top priority. He was known for his distinctive one eyebrow lift, was a man of tradition and faith. His children and grandchildren were fortunate to experience his love through his playful nature, creative gift giving, and his unfailing greeting with a hug and a kiss. He will be missed dearly, but his lessons, strength, and love will continue to guide us and carry us through until we reunite.
Visitation will be held at St Mary’s Church, West Lorne on Monday June 24, 2024 at 10:00 until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm. Interment in St Mary’s cemetery following the Funeral Mass.
