Gerald Atkinson (Punch to some) passed away at Four Counties Hospital early in the morning of August 18. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years Sharon (Campbell); his children, Jeff and Jill (Brian Wiersma); grandsons Jacob (Kennedy) and Mark (Antonella); and great granddaughter, Brynnleigh.
Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Wilf and Dora Atkinson; parents-in-law, Jack and Maxine Campbell; sisters Doreen (Archie Goldrick) and Carlene (Bill Goos); and brother-in-law Don Campbell (Helen). He also leaves behind his sisters Marlene Van Breda (Wayne), Joanne Redquest (Morley), and Sally Allen (John); stepbrother Lyle Iden; and brothers-in-law Neil Campbell (Marilyn) and Phil Campbell (Linda); along with many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Gerald was laid to rest on August 23 at Tyrconnell Cemetery with immediate family in attendance.
Before retirement, Gerald had been a 30+ year employee of the Ford Motor Company at its assembly plant in Talbotville, Ontario. Prior to that he was an OPP constable stationed in Merlin, Ontario during the 1960s.
Gerald loved the outdoors. He was a hunter of squirrels and rabbits, pheasants and ducks, deer and moose. It is with these fond memories of times spent in the woods with family and friends that he has requested donations be made to Ducks Unlimited, or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers or other tributes.
