It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eduarda Da Costa Ganhadeiro, who departed from this world on August 5th, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born on April 25th, 1931, in São Miguel, Açores, to the late José Bento and Maria dos Santos. She was a beloved resident of West Lorne, Ontario, Canada, and was a cherished wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Eduarda's love for her family was boundless and unwavering. Her vibrant spirit, and compassionate heart touched the lives of all who knew her - extending far beyond the ties of blood. Her humor could brighten any room and lift the heaviest of hearts. Bold, joyful, and unapologetically her own, it brought laughter in the best and hardest of times. Known for her generosity, she made sure that no one ever left her home hungry. Her beautifully prepared meals were more than just food; they were expressions of love, comfort, and Portuguese tradition. She found deep joy in life's simplest pleasures - tending to her garden, crocheting, drawing, or nurturing the many animals she adored.
Above all, Eduarda cherished her family and shared an enduring bond with her beloved marido, the late Francisco Ganhadeiro (2000). As a devoted Mãe, Eduarda provided unwavering love and support to her filhos John Ganhadeiro (Nancy), Frank Ganhadeiro (Helena), Emanuel Ganhadeiro (Elisa), Rui Ganhadeiro, and Robert Ganhadeiro (Stephanie). She took great pride in her role as Vóvó, adoring Nik Ganhadeiro (Sarah), Melanie Cook (Troy), Michael Ganhadeiro (Carol), Monica Oates (Alan), Taylor Schnekenburger, and Nolan Schnekenburger, and reveled in the happiness brought by her bisnetos Skylar, Danika, Isla, Jocelyn, Caleb, Emma, and Maximus. Growing up, Eduarda shared many cherished memories with her siblings in the Açores. She joins her beloved irmão Joãquim (late Alda) who passed before her. She will be deeply missed by her irmão Serafim (Sophia), and her irmã Leonor (João Luis).
In every aspect of her life, Eduarda radiated compassion, strength, and unforgettable spark, leaving behind a legacy of love that will be cherished always. Her faith was a guiding light, illuminating her path in life. It was through that unwaving faith that she now finds eternal rest, reunited with God in heaven.
The family would like to thank Eduarda's Home and Community Care Team for their devotion and unwavering support and kindness. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Parish, 128 Main St., West Lorne, on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 11:00am. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetary. A time of fellowship will follow the committal service and will be held at St. Mary's Church Hall, 132 Main Street, West Lorne, ON.
