March 7, 1932 – March 28, 2025
Duncan McTavish, Dunc, lifelong resident and third generation on the family farm in Cowal, passed away peacefully, age 93, at Newbury on March 28, surrounded by family. He loved farming and nature, giving special attention to the woodlot he visited daily by foot or on the gator. A few short months ago he lost the love of his life, Eileen nee Malden whom he married in his early 50s. They shared 41 years with her adult children, Richard (Judy), Rachel (Steve), and Julian (Paris) Foxton who enriched their lives with eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was affectionately known as Pa following many trips to Australia and parts of Canada, along with cherished time with the grandchildren on the farm. Duncan was the beloved son of Archie “A.D” and Vanelda (nee Smith) McTavish, brother of Marg Carroll, and is predeceased by his brother Don and sister-in-law Kathy McTavish, brother-in-law Don Carroll, and his nephews Bob Carroll and Dave McTavish. He is survived by Eileen’s sister Jean and brother-in-law Linton Harrison. Uncle Dunc will be dearly missed by his nieces Dianne (Don) Lyons, Nancy Carroll, Christine (Gary) McTavish, Sheelagh (Joe) de Sousa, and nephew Tom (Janice) McTavish, and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. Thank you to Duncan’s neighbours, and the staff of Closing the Gap with special thanks to Lee for enabling Duncan to remain in his home until his short stay in hospital. Thank you to Dr. Wu and the nurses of Four Counties Health Services who, like all of us, admitted they had a soft spot for Duncan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Four Counties Health Services .In keeping with Dunc’s wishes, a short service will be held Wednesday, April 2,2025 at 2:30pm at Arn Funeral Home, Dutton for those who would like to quietly acknowledge his passing.
