Bernard "Ben" Sloetjes

Bernard Sloetjes (Ben) passed into the presence of his Lord and Saviour in St. Thomas on Monday, January 19th in his 93rd year.

He leaves behind Erna, his wife of 71 years, and children Dave (Cathy), Margaret (Gene), Joyce (Albert), and Marion; grandchildren Katie (Rob), and Tracy; step-grandchildren Pam (Dave), Melissa (Travis), and Rhonda (Chris); and 2 great-grandchildren Hudson and Lincoln.Ben is survived by one brother Henk (Ineke) in Holland, and many sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews in Holland and Canada. He was one of eleven children, raised in Gendringen, Gelderland, Holland.

He will be missed by the believers at the St. Thomas Gospel Hall.Ben came to Canada in 1951, and settled in South-Western Ontario, then bought a farm in Dutton which they operated as a dairy farm for many years, and where he lived till his last days.

Ben volunteered as a prayer partner at 100 Huntley Street, Crossroads for over 15 years.

He loved to travel and enjoyed long-term missions trips to Zambia, Africa, as well as traveling through the States with his nephew Johnny in his big truck.

Funeral at Arn Funeral Home in Dutton, 193 Shackleton Street, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 22, visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
