Alexander Peter Obituary

PETER

June 29, 1930 –

Alex passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021, at Glendale Crossing in London, ON,  at the age of 90 with all his children close by to spend time with him, as was his wish.Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Jolan Peter; as well as siblings Elizabeth, Joseph, Mary, Ann, Jennie, John and Barb. Also predeceased (and dearly missed) by eldest daughter, Jennie McEwen and granddaughter, Whitney Jo Peter.  Survived by daughter Jennie’s family John (Jessica) Meszaros and their children, Jenna and Jade, Joel and his children Jasmine (Jonathan)Spaulding, Jessica; son Joe Peter and his daughter, Crystal (Nate) Taback; daughter Julianne (Blair) Heagy and family, Jared and Justine Layne; daughter Jody Peter and her daughter, Celine; and son Jon Peter.  Alex was born in Spiritwood, SK, June 29, 1930. He moved from Saskatchewan to Ontario with his family in the mid-1930’s. In 1954 he married Helen Farkas and together they raised the 5 J’s (Jen, Joe, Jul, Jod and Jon). In 1957, he began working with Harold Row & Son’s selling Badger farm equipment. He received many sales awards throughout the years and in 1980 sold his business, Alex Peter & Sons. Being a community-minded man, he stayed active with the local Lions club selling raffle tickets, volunteering at bingos and fundraising for the local Lion’s senior housing complex which he resided in for several years.

Another lifetime passion was his horses. There were always horses on the farm and later on he raised and raced horses successfully. Many of them winning races at local fairs and several racetracks.

Alex’s family will miss hearing some of his favorite phrases “if the good Lord’s willing” and “that’s just tickety boo”. His family will forever be grateful for memories of times spent fishing, gardening, enjoying birds and other wildlife; doing family chores on the farm that instilled strong work ethics, family gatherings including family reunions every year at the Melbourne Fair Grounds/Legion, his strong handshake, and his easy smile.

Donations in memory of Alex can be made to the Melbourne and District Lions Club c/o 6690 Parkhouse Drive, Melbourne, Ontario. N0L 1T0
