William McLandress Obituary

     William Alexander (The Ball of Fire), passed away peacefully on July 1, 2018, at Bobier Villa, Dutton, with his family by his side. Bill was born on November 25, 1929, in St. Thomas, Ontario. Loving husband of Joan (Lazenby), for 62 years (now deceased). Loving brother of Marilyn and Clifford Inch (both deceased), Mary Jane and Bill Clifford (both deceased), and Isabel and Les (deceased) MacFarlane. Predeceased by his parents, William and Vera (Fife) McLandress. Beloved father of John (Brenda), Carolyn (Glenn), Bob (Beth), James, David (Crystal). Grandfather of Tracey, Kerri (Steve), Katrina (Russell), Jason (Leesa), Ashley; Daniel, Alan (Michelle), Laura (Tad); April (Brian), Ryan (Luke), Wesley (Bethany); Megan (Devin), Amy (Rick), Matthew, Bryce, Jordan and Logan. Great Grandfather of Ben, Landon, and Emelia, Carson and Briar, Jonathan, Tamara and Tyler, Emillie, Olivia and Ayden, William, Gemma, and Weston.

During his teenage years, he worked at the family grain elevators. When he and Joan married, they purchased a farm in Wallacetown, growing cash crops, and raising a variety of livestock. In 1954, he was hired on the Railroad, becoming an engineer, until retirement. During layoffs from the Railroad, he worked nights at the Talbotville Ford Plant, while farming during the day.

Bill had a passion for golfing, and flying. He was a licensed private pilot. But his number one passion, was for his life-long love, Joan.

Two visitations will be held on Friday July 6:  from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Arn Funeral Home, 193 Shackleton Street, Dutton. 519-762-2416.  Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church in Fingal, where Bill and Joan were members. Everyone is invited to join the family for a reception at the church following the Memorial service. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Foundation, Bobier Villa, or a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank all of Bill and Joan’s friends for their love. Thank you to the truly wonderful staff at Bobier Villa, for the tremendous support and care they gave to Bill throughout his years in Bobier Villa, and during his final days of life.
